Does CMS require annual sales training?
Yes!! Plan sponsors must ensure that all agents and brokers who sell Medicare products are trained and tested annually.
Agents and brokers must have in-depth knowledge of Medicare health and drug plans, operation and regulations in order to protect the beneficiary from misinformation and inappropriate sales. Each year CMS releases specific topics that must be covered in the training and testing materials.
But I just received training last year – are you sure I really need to do it again?
Yes, as stated above it is a CMS requirement that training is received annually, but it is also a key part of having a successful sales season. Annual training is also a required part of our certification process to be able to sell our products.
