Ensuring our customers and your clients have access to products that offer the most value requires a periodic evaluation of local market conditions; as the Individual health insurance market evolves, we must evolve with it. With that in mind, we’ve had to re-evaluate our commissions for certain Individual member enrollments.
Specifically, for 2016, we will not pay commissions on new Individual members who enroll in ACA-compliant medical plans - on or off the exchange - with effective dates between April 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016. This applies for the life of these policies. The change does not affect commissions on ancillary, short-term, accident and critical illness plans.
We believe this change is necessary to create long-term sustainable pricing while providing consumers with health care that remains affordable. We know this change will create challenges, but be assured we remain committed to our partnership with you and your clients. This decision is not, and should not be viewed as, a retraction of our previously stated commitment to the public exchange market. We remain fully committed to this market and will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure the viability and sustainability of the public exchanges.
